A 2.6 hour flight from Lima to Iquique, Chile.

Iquique! From far, far too high. We're landing there!!

Iquique! From far, far too high. We're landing there!!

Canon EOS 40D with Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM at 40.0 mm; 1/60 sec, f/2.8, ISO 100
Since we are a little high to land, we're now dropping like a rock. 3000 feet per minute down! That's 34.09 miles per hour. Straight down.

It sure is a pretty panel. Note the (overexposed) video camera and the Spot on the dash. Bri is such a nerd.

Canon EOS 40D with Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM at 18.0 mm; 1/1600 sec, f/2.8, ISO 100
After the ears popped...we're now ready to land.

Canon EOS 40D with Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM at 55.0 mm; 1/4000 sec, f/2.8, ISO 100
Final! Clear to land!

Canon EOS 40D with Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM at 55.0 mm; 1/4000 sec, f/2.8, ISO 100
Bri certainly wasn't expecting this. Desert. What?! Hangers and hills at Iquique.

Canon EOS 40D with Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM at 55.0 mm; 1/4000 sec, f/2.8, ISO 100
The terminal at Iquique.

Canon EOS 40D with Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM at 52.0 mm; 1/4000 sec, f/2.8, ISO 100
John's N82XL at Iquique. Shot as we taxi into parking.

Canon EOS 40D with Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM at 17.0 mm; 1/6400 sec, f/2.8, ISO 100
Fueling N82XL. One to fuel, one to supervise, and one paranoid (as normal) pilot.

Canon EOS 40D with Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM at 17.0 mm; 1/200 sec, f/14.1, ISO 100
More fuel. N80SJ waits, while N82XL sucks up every last drop of fuel. Unlike most of central america, lots of south america airports have fuel taps in the parking areas, so only a pump truck is needed.

Pilots finally head off to customs/immmigration. Us passengers already finished. Bri was tasked with fuel, which didn't start until after Pilot Steve returned. Efficient, no?

Canon EOS 40D with Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM at 18.0 mm; 1/400 sec, f/14.1, ISO 100
The three turbine aircraft. Note the fuel truck still there. TBM N850SJ on the left, TBM N850WM on the right. Cheyenne N82XL hidden behind the fuel truck.

Canon EOS 40D with Sigma 50-500mm f/4-6.3 APO HSM EX at 500.0 mm; 1/800 sec, f/6.4, ISO 100
Captain Ben. Unfortunately, Captain Ben was just told to return to parking for some stupid bizarre paperwork stamp. The first appearance of Bertha (Sigma 50-500mm f/4-6.3 APO HSM)! Bri was hoping to get some great take off photos with her.
