A 1.5 hour flight from Lima to Cuzco.

After extensive training (their photos on a single local page) we set of from Lima to Cuzco in the TBM. To get permission for this, we had to get Socata to provide a chart showing the takeoff performance at 11,000 feet.

For most of the 1.5 hour long flight, we were above the clouds. This was taken just after we dove through a hole.

That's Cuzco in the valley. The airport is right in the middle. We need to fly down a pass on the right side, turn around after the second peak, and land.

The hills were pretty. And pretty close. Considering we're at 18,000 feet or so right now.

I don't even want to think how long this would take by car.

The airport, viewed through the valley after the first hill. Our extensive training told us this was not the correct valley to turn into. Plus, that we haven't quite passed the end of the runway was another big hint.

Turning around the second hill.

A steep turn.

After the turn, now we just need to drop a few thousand feet...while flying towards a hill.

Hills on the left (a couple pics above), in front (pic above) and on the right. Nice and cozy.

Descending.

Still descending, but we've at least got the airport in sight.

At 12000 feet, dropping nearly 2000 feet per minute, while turning. Note the lower left corner; the GPS is screaming at us to pull up due to terrain. "Terrain ahead. Terrain AHEAD! PULL UP!"

Still dropping.

Still dropping, turning final.

A very happy TBM in Cuzco. We were chased off the tarmac before I could figure out how to get a good shot. This was taken through the window where baggage is loaded onto the conveyor. Security guard next to it gave me a good looking over. Crazy Americans.
