...where we explored the ruins at Copan.

Our first day in Copan was rather lazy. We hung around the pool until lunch, ate lunch, then went to the ruins.

Scott and Joe ate lunch here. We went back to the hotel/resort and ate lunch there. No doubt, their lunch tasted better, but, he, if Pa, who drinks the water, didn't want to.....

Copan is strange. You buy a ticket at a visitor center, then walk 500m and show the ticket to someone who doesn't really look at the ticket. But, on the fence making you go through this ritual are a bumch of reasonably pretty birds. So, we buy the ticket and take pictures of the birds.

You're on your own here! It's old, and a king.

Not as old, but debatably a king. Pa decided to take a nap. In the middle of Copan Ruinas. I can only imagine how relaxed he was. Wow! I'm sleeping in the middle of 1500 year old ruins!

Serpentine-ish head in the middle of the ball court. See next.

The ball court.

The Hieroglyphic Stairs, and a Stelae, at Copan.

Canon EOS 300D with Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 at 20.0 mm; 1/20 sec, f/6.3, ISO 400
The Stelae from the last photo.

Canon EOS 300D with Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 at 10.0 mm; 1/50 sec, f/4.5, ISO 400
The Hieroglyphic Stairs, in their entirety, a little crooked.

Canon EOS 300D with Unknown 28-300mm at 35.0 mm; 1/25 sec, f/8.0, ISO 400
A stelae, next to the Hieroglyphic Stairs. A 90 degree turn from the stairs, on the long wall of the Court of the Hieroglyphic Stairs. The stuff in the backgound could have been a staircase, or a wall. It's pretty messed up now.

Same as above, looking away from the Stairs.

Ma was in a starting competition with this guy, just right of the Stairs. I was off looking at the stelae above, and Pa came and hollered. This guy got bored with us shortly after.

Off to the left is the Stairs, the stellae above is just barely out of frame (on the left, duh).

I'm sadly not exactly sure where this is. I think it's at the top of hill in the previous picture, around the corner from the next picture, which would make this part of Temple 11. It's got some cool writing, anyway!

Canon EOS 300D with Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 at 10.0 mm; 1/100 sec, f/10.0, ISO 400
At the top of the hill! Note the tree that, so far, hasn't looked down.

Canon EOS 300D with Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 at 10.0 mm; 1/80 sec, f/10.0, ISO 400
Looking north (?) from around Temple 11. The Hieroglyphic Stairs are (hidden) in the lower right corner.

Canon EOS 300D with Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 at 10.0 mm; 1/100 sec, f/10.0, ISO 400
Turned to the left of the last photo. The photo I'm not sure where it came from, probably came from the path to the lower left here. I hope these directions help you get a sense of the space, 'cause they are rather a pain to remember and/or describe....

Canon EOS 300D with Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 at 10.0 mm; 1/125 sec, f/10.0, ISO 400
This one is HUGE! It got an actual color plate in "A Forest of Kings"! It's Temple 22. "The image represents the arch of the sky held away from the skeletal realm of the Underworld by the gods called Pauahtun". Go buy the book! The picture in the book has a lot of trees in the background, and no stupid 'no trespassing' sign. The trees obscure the mountain you can see through the passageway.

Canon EOS 300D with Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 at 14.0 mm; 1/640 sec, f/5.0, ISO 400
Ummmm. Well, I don't know. It's in the East Court. The last is just to the right of here.

Canon EOS 300D with Unknown 28-300mm at 50.0 mm; 1/1250 sec, f/4.0, ISO 400
We're now down in the West Court. This is Altar Q, with Temple 16 in the background.

Canon EOS 300D with Unknown 28-300mm at 65.0 mm; 1/200 sec, f/11.0, ISO 400
Altar Q, photogenically.

A cool lizard head on the north side of the West Court.

Same lizard.
