2010-07-20 -- Anchorage

I don't think we had anything planned today, but, for some reason, weren't fired up to do more flying. We heard there was a museum down near the airport, just on the otherside of the lake (the hotel is on a lake). And walked over to it. While there, we found a guy willing to take us flying around glaciers and what not, heck, why not?

I don't think we ever made it to the museum that day.

Hangers here are quite gorgeous. Here's N759MZ.

We get to the place, and find it is rather busy.

M83349 gets a lift.

Tugs for seaplanes are a bit different than tugs for wheeled aircraft. This must be just bizarre to drive, like backing up but going forwards....or backing up but like driving forwards.

That'll be us in a minute or two. N626KT departs.

It's general aviation paradise here.

A paved and a liquid runway.

This is usually exactly NOT what you want to see when looking out the front of an airplane. This guy is so slow, and turned way down, that it still took for ever to get just a little closer.

We eventually found some glaciers. They're quite easy to catch, even in slow planes.

We stayed up high, just in case they exploded.

No, really, we were no where near close to it.

They really do move.

Glcaier texture. Color isn't worth writing home about.

Phew, floats still attached. And some melting glacier. Like little ice cold swimming pools!

More glacier. It's the last one, I promise.

We were thinking of landing and going to visit one of these in person...

...except the icebergs were a little scary.
