2010-07-09 -- Hong Kong
We went to the Hong Kong Science Museum and saw the Biodiversity in Hong Kong exhibit, then the Energy Machine fired up. I thought the Smart Ambience Therapy was a neat idea....just ten years too late to have any significant wow factor.
The Science Museum had a small section on communication. They started off with the telegraph, and showed a Morse Code Undulator, used in the Hong Kong Observatory unti lthe early 1980's. I couldn't get a picture of it though it's online. This little gadget wrote morse code to a paper tape. The tape moved continuously, and the pen moved to the top for dashes and to the bottom for dots (see below). Amazing it was kept in use until the early 1980's.
Dinner was at Ruth's Chris Steak House, where we ate far too much excellent steak and onion rings.
UPDATE -- On the last night in Siem Reap, Thierry was interviewed by the local paper, The Phnom Penh Post. The article, Zipping around on Zulu Time came out today (That's my hat on the statue). Sadly, it is filled with inaccuracies. Like there being a Challenger on the trip, and no PC-12. And "Air Voyage" instead of "Air Journey". Oh well.
