OK! Back to power vacationing!

After breakfast, we went snorkeling again. The reef here is incredible. Fish all over the place. Coral all over the place. 30 feet from shore, immediately at the end of the dock. Just jump in and start looking. We snorkeled for about an hour, then had a light lunch and some napping.

At 4:30pm we left for the camel ride and tea and sunset safari. I must admit that the camel ride was much more fun than expected.

We ate dinner at the Four Seasons again, at the same place as last night. I got a "spicy harira soup with beef" and a "fatet makdous (minced lamb, aubergine, pomegranate, tahina, yoghurt and nuts". Note to self: pomegranate isn't good.

Dad, ready to go. We think. While more fun than expected, it was also more uncomfortable than expected.

Mom'a camel was itching to go; Mom wasn't so ready. Hold ON!

This was basically it. A guide led the camels on a slow walk around the desert, while us tourists joked, took photos, and tried to not fall off.

It is surprisingly difficult to compose a photo, take the photo AND hold on all at the same time. Sorry, Mom, I didn't mean to chop you in half.

Some eventually figured out that crossing the leg around the front of the saddle and tucking it under the other leg was a bit more comfortable and stable. I couldn't quite do that, but was able to throw the leg over the front of the saddle.

Crop out the left side and it's a nice photo.

Camels are not pretty. Camels are not pleasant. Camels are not nice. Here, Dad tries to touch (pet?) a camel. The camel really didn't like that....even before touching the camel snapped.

Still not best friends, but at least nobody is biting and cursing any more.

After the ride, we went for tea, bread and goat cheese at a bedouin camp. Big business, these camps. The tea was excellent, minty and sugary. The bread was doughy (just flour, water and sugar, IIRC -- not sure if there was any yeast). The goat cheese was creamy and fresh.

After the tea, we jumped in a few 4x4s and took off through the desert in search of a sunset. The sigts along the way were more interesting.

A bedouin camp. They collect plastic bottles from a nearby dump, package them, and sell them back to Cairo for money. TONS of trash blowing around here. Depressing.

A dead camel, not much left, but more than the next one we saw.

At all the bedouin camps, the kids came running when they saw/heard us. (Shot from a rapidly moving 4x4 over not-very smooth ground).

Fairly typical for the area. Sharp mountains with large plains between them. The plains are clearly from erosion, filled with coarse sharp sand.

After we got back to town, we stopped at a store for....I'm not really sure why. We got some snacks for the long flight tomorrow.
