2010-05-23 -- Marrakech

A free day to explore Marrakech more, or just take it easy. Most took it easy and slept in, a few went to the airport to get stuff in order or get fuel. Others went shopping.

Since the day was spent mostly at the pool or snoozing or talking or doing nothing worth nothing, I have only pictures of the room (gorgeous) and dinner (at the Moroccan restaurant inside the hotel, which was fantastic).

Canon EOS 5D Mark II with Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II at 16.0 mm; 1/15 sec, f/6.4, ISO 400
The bedroom at La Mamounia. It is difficult to see here, but the detail in this room was fantastic. The door panels are covered with typical patters (see the ceiling below, or doors tomorrow). All the tile work is hand-laid (see the wall next to the door), the trim along the ceiling is carved, etc.

The bathroom is likewise luxrious. The towel rack on the right is heated, I'm guessing, by running hot water through the pipes.

This is the entrance, looking at the front door from the bedroom.

The bedroom, looking down the entrance hall (with my crud on the right side). The mirror, just barely visable on the upper right, is at a perfect angle to watch, well, the bed. Other than that, it was beautiful, all silver (colored) and intricate. Of course, I didn't take a picture of me taking a picture of a mirror.

This room was adjacent to the restaurant, just perfect for hanging out with friends. It'd probably get rather noisy though.

"Lobster pastilla and a coulis of red bell pepper with argan oil".

Sorry for the out of focus; the other picture used flash, and looks awful. "Lamb tagine with vegetables seasonal vegetables" (no, really, that's what the menu said). In the background, a bowl of lentils (I didn't take a picture of the menu, so that's the best decription you're getting) and part of the "selection of Moroccan salads" (which we had for the first course last night).

After dessert, a plate of sweets (we already ate some of them).
